Tibetan Cloth
Based on regional, cultural, climatic, and lifestyle differences, Tibetan clothing is mainly divided into three types:
Amdo clothing, Kham clothing, and Ü-Tsang clothing.
Amdo Style

-
Area: It is mainly prevalent in the Amdo Tibetan areas of Qinghai, Gansu, and northern Sichuan.
-
Characteristics: Elegance and opulence, with intricate decorations and the extensive use of precious materials such as gold, silver, pearls, agate, and coral in ornaments like milk hooks, fire steels, belts, and headpiece braids.
-
Clothing Fabrics: Mainly made of woolen cloth, sheepskin, and lambskin, with strong color contrasts (such as red and green, black and white), showcasing a rugged yet magnificent aesthetic.
Khampa Style

-
Area: It is distributed in the Kham region, including Changdu in Tibet, Diqing in Yunnan, Ganzi in Sichuan, and Yushu in Qinghai.
-
Characteristics: Its style is known for its ruggedness, boldness, and vibrant colors.
-
Clothing Fabrics: The clothing features exaggerated cuts and heavy fabrics, and the overall style is powerful and dynamic, reflecting the passionate and unrestrained character of the Kham people.
U-Tsang Style

-
Area: This primarily refers to the clothing of the core areas of Ü-Tsang, including Lhasa, Shannan, Shigatse, and Ngari.
-
Characteristics: The style is simple yet elegant, and ancient and dignified.
-
Clothing Fabrics: It emphasizes detailed craftsmanship, such as embroidery and edge decorations. Although not as elaborate as Amdo clothing.
Practical Tips for Visitors
-
Pro-Tips for Your Shoot: Book Early: Morning light (8:00 AM - 10:30 AM) is the softest and best for portraits.
-
Stay Warm: Traditional robes are thick, but we recommend wearing thermal leggings underneath.
-
Oxygen First: If you are shooting at 4,500m+, take breaks! Holding a pose at high altitude can be tiring.
-
Respect the Culture: Follow your guide’s advice on how to hold religious items like prayer wheels correctly.
